**Short answer: for most Moto G Stylus owners, the camera app worth adding is
SensePose.** It's an AI camera app for Android that enhances every photo on
the phone as you take it: better colour and tone, cleaner low light, and AI
face enhance on supported phones. The Stylus gives it good hardware to work with: a 50MP main camera with
optical stabilization on the 2024, 2025 and 2026 models. It's free to download, runs on
Android 8.0+, and installs from Google Play.

Below: how the three models differ, what Motorola's camera already does, pen
tips, GCam by model year, and settings.

## Which Moto G Stylus do you have?

Motorola reuses the name every spring, so check **Settings → About phone** for
the year. For photos the line splits in two: the 2024, and the 2025 and 2026,
which share the same camera hardware.

| | Moto G Stylus 5G (2024) | Moto G Stylus (2025) | Moto G Stylus (2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Main camera | 50MP f/1.8, 1.0µm pixels, OIS | 50MP Sony LYTIA 700C, 1/1.56-inch, OIS | Same as 2025 |
| Ultra-wide | 13MP, 120°, doubles as macro | 13MP, 1/3-inch, doubles as macro | Same as 2025 |
| Chip | Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 | Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 | Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 |
| Android at launch | Android 14 | Android 15 | Android 16 |
| Pen | Passive, redesigned | Passive; Motorola claims 6.4x more responsive | Active: tilt and pressure in supported apps |
| US launch price | $399.99 | $399.99 | $499.99 |

Sources: Motorola's spec sheets and launch posts, and PhoneArena's and
GSMArena's 2026 reviews. Why it matters:

- **OIS on every model**, so a slower handheld shutter is a real option for
  still subjects indoors.
- **The 2025 changed the sensor.** Motorola calls it the first Stylus with the
Sony LYTIA 700C, so the 2024 uses a different 50MP sensor. That matters for
GCam, because color configs are written per sensor.
- **Photos default to 12.5MP.** The main camera bins four pixels into one (on
the 2024, 1.0µm pixels act as 2.0µm), and a separate mode shoots full 50MP.
- **One lens does ultra-wide and macro.** PhoneArena notes the third ring on
the 2026's back isn't a camera. The 13MP ultra-wide's much smaller sensor gets
  noisy sooner as light drops.

## What the stock Moto Camera does, and what it leaves to you

Motorola's camera does a fair amount on its own. On the 2025, Motorola says its
Photo Enhancement Engine analyzes multiple frames and blends exposures. For the
2026 it also lists Signature Style, which tailors adjustments to scenes such as
food or portraits, and Action Shot, which adjusts shutter speed for moving
subjects. PhoneArena found the 2026's photos "surprisingly decent" in good
light, but saw oversharpening and odd artifacts on fine textures such as
branches.

The gaps are about control and hard light:

**1. Auto doesn't show its choices; Pro mode leaves them to you.** When a
backlit face comes out dark, the fix is dragging the exposure slider, shot by
shot. Pro mode hands you ISO, shutter, white balance and focus, but working out
the right values for the scene is your job.

**2. Contrast still has a ceiling.** A sunlit sky over a shaded street can span
more brightness than one frame records. Blending helps, but skies and windows
can still lose detail: a [dynamic range](/blog/what-is-dynamic-range) limit,
not a setting.

**3. Indoor light forces a trade.** Higher ISO means more noise, and noise
reduction then smooths texture out of hair and fabric.

**4. The ultra-wide is the weak lens in dim rooms.** Use the main camera for
anything that matters indoors.

## What SensePose changes on the Stylus

**An on-device enhance on every shot.** Each photo is enhanced on the phone as
you take it: better colour and tone, and cleaner low light from a mild
on-device denoise. It's point-and-shoot, with no manual exposure controls, and
it takes a single frame rather than a burst.

**AI face enhance.** On arm64 phones with 3 GB RAM or more, faces get an AI
enhance (a one-time download of about 60 MB). Press and hold a photo to see
the original.

**Also included:** a Natural or Punchy look, an option to also save the
original, a grid, and a shutter-sound toggle.

**Honest scope:** Motorola's camera already blends frames on recent models, and
SensePose takes a single frame, so expect the difference mostly in colour, tone
and faces rather than in highlight range. Shoot the same scene in both apps and keep what
you prefer.

A naming note: SensePose is an AI camera, not a pose-estimation or
motion-capture tool, and it is unrelated to DensePose and to SenseTime's 2017
technology of the same name.

## Using the pen: precise focus, cutouts and touch-ups

A fingertip covers a patch of screen; a pen tip lands on one point.

**Focus where you mean it.** With tap-to-focus, a pen tap places focus
exactly: one face in a group, or a product label.

**Cleaner cutouts.** SensePose doesn't remove backgrounds, so use a dedicated
remover. Removers struggle with grainy edges and clipped highlights,
which leave chewed-looking hair or a halo, so a clean, well-exposed shot gives
them better material
([background removal guide](/blog/remove-background-from-photo-android)).

**Touch-ups by hand.** For a stray hair or a spot, use Brush and Healing in
Snapseed, masking in Lightroom mobile, or Magic Eraser in Google Photos.
Motorola pitches the pen for fine-tuning images with Google Photos' AI tools,
and the 2026's active pen responds to tilt and pressure in supported apps.

**What SensePose isn't:** an editor. It has no editing tools and can't enhance
photos already in your gallery: it enhances only the photos you take in it,
entirely on the phone. Your photos never leave your phone.

## Stock camera, GCam port or SensePose: the Stylus trade-offs

| | Stock Moto Camera | GCam port (unofficial) | SensePose |
|---|---|---|---|
| Who sets exposure | Auto, or you in Pro mode | Auto, plus a brightness slider | Auto (point-and-shoot) |
| Frame merging | Automatic HDR and frame blending | HDR+ burst, when the port runs | No (single frame, enhanced on-device) |
| Lenses | Main and ultra-wide/macro | Main usually; ultra-wide depends on the port | Lenses Motorola exposes to third-party apps |
| Where it comes from | Preinstalled | APK from a forum, often plus a config | Google Play |
| After an OTA update | Updated with the phone | May stop working | Updated through Play |
| Price | Free | Free | First 5 enhanced photos free; one-time unlock |

A port applies Google's processing to whatever its auto mode picked. SensePose
also shoots on auto, then enhances each photo on the phone. More on
[how GCam compares with an AI camera app](/blog/gcam-vs-ai-camera-app).

## Moto G Stylus GCam: what to expect on each model

**There's no official Google Camera for any Stylus.** Every "GCam for Moto G
Stylus" download is a volunteer port, usually a BigKaka (LMC), BSG (MGC) or
Shamim build, not vetted by Google Play. Odds on the main camera are decent:
all three models run Snapdragon chips on near-stock Android, and owners post
results from MGC and BigKaka builds on the 2025. Check for a Camera2 level of
`FULL` or `LEVEL_3` first
([how to check](/blog/camera2-api-hardware-level-check)).

**Match the config to the model year.** The 2024's sensor isn't the 2025's
LYTIA 700C, so a config written for one won't match the other's color, and a
mismatched config is where washed-out or tinted shots usually come from. The
2025 and 2026 share their camera hardware, so a 2025 config is the natural
starting point on a 2026.

**Expect gaps.** The ultra-wide/macro lens is often not exposed to the port,
the front camera is inconsistent, some modes crash, and there's no ISO or
shutter control.

**Updates are the risk.** An OTA can change the camera layer a port depends on,
and older builds can fail on the 2026's Android 16; see
[GCam for Android 16](/blog/gcam-for-android-16).

**GCam or SensePose?** GCam rewards tinkering on the main camera. SensePose
gives you an on-device enhance on every shot without the upkeep. You can keep
both.

## Moto G Stylus camera settings worth changing

In the stock Moto Camera (names from Motorola's spec sheet; menus vary slightly
by year):

1. **Stay in the default 12.5MP mode.** Save full 50MP for bright, still
   scenes.
2. **Turn on Assistive Grid and the Leveler** for straight horizons.
3. **Turn off Face Retouch** on the front camera to keep skin texture.
4. **Tap the subject with the pen, then lower exposure a step** when a bright
sky fills the top of the frame.
5. **In Pro mode, use a lower ISO and slower shutter for still subjects.** OIS
steadies the frame, but it can't freeze people who move.
6. **Turn on RAW photo output** if you edit in Lightroom or Snapseed; RAW gives
   more highlight room.
7. **Wipe the lens.** A smudge often causes the haze people blame on
   processing ([lens fixes](/blog/how-to-fix-blurry-camera-lens)).

In SensePose there's little to set: every shot is enhanced on the phone, and
settings offer a Natural or Punchy look, face enhance on/off and "also save the
original". For manual control, use the stock Pro mode
([Pro mode explained](/blog/what-is-pro-mode-camera)).

The 2022 and 2023 Stylus launched on Android 11 to 13, so SensePose installs on
them too. For other Motorola phones, see the
[Moto G and Moto E camera guide](/blog/best-camera-app-for-motorola-moto-g) and
the [Moto G86 guide](/blog/best-camera-app-for-moto-g86).

## Bottom line

The Moto G Stylus is a capable camera phone for the money, with a stabilized
50MP main camera and a pen that makes precise focus easy. What it lacks is
exposure you can see and steer per scene without setting every slider yourself.
GCam ports narrow that gap on the main lens but break on updates. SensePose
takes a different route: an on-device enhance on every shot, free to download
on Google Play.

## FAQ

### What is the best camera app for the Moto G Stylus?

For most owners, SensePose. It enhances every photo on the phone as you take
it, with better colour and tone, cleaner low light and AI face enhance on
supported phones. It's free on
Google Play and needs Android 8.0 or newer, so it runs on the 2024, 2025 and
2026 models.

### Does GCam work on the Moto G Stylus?

Often on the main camera, through unofficial ports; owners post results from
MGC and BigKaka builds on the 2025. Match the config to your model year, since
the 2024's sensor differs from the 2025 and 2026. The ultra-wide is often
missing, updates can break a port, and ports stay on auto exposure.

### Is the Moto G Stylus 2026 camera different from the 2025?

Barely. PhoneArena's spec comparison shows the same 50MP Sony LYTIA 700C main
camera with OIS and the same 13MP ultra-wide on both. Motorola lists features
such as Action Shot and Signature Style for the 2026, but the bigger changes are
an active pen with tilt and pressure, IP69 on top of IP68, and Android 16.

### What are the best Moto G Stylus camera settings?

Stay in the default 12.5MP mode, turn on Assistive Grid, turn off Face Retouch,
and use Pro mode with a lower ISO and slower shutter for still scenes. For
bright skies, tap the subject with the pen and lower exposure a step.

### Can I use the stylus to edit photos?

Yes. The pen is precise enough for Snapseed's Brush and Healing tools,
Lightroom mobile masking and Google Photos' Magic Eraser. The 2026's active pen adds tilt
and pressure in supported apps.

### Is SensePose free on the Moto G Stylus?

It's free to download. The first 5 enhanced photos are free; after that,
photos still save free as the original at full resolution, and one small
payment unlocks enhanced photos forever, with no subscription. No account or
sign-in, and no watermark.
