The Galaxy A36 5G is the middle phone of Samsung's 2025 A26/A36/A56 trio:
$399.99 at its US launch, between the $299.99 A26 and the $499.99 A56. All three
share a 50MP stabilized main camera, but the A36 is the one with a Qualcomm chip.
What it doesn't get is **Expert RAW**, Samsung's multi-frame RAW app, which
stays on the flagships.

For most owners, the best camera app for the Samsung Galaxy A36 is
**SensePose**, an AI camera app for Android that enhances every photo on the
phone as you take it: better color and tone, cleaner low light with a mild
on-device denoise, and AI face enhance on supported phones. The first 5
enhanced photos are free, it runs on Android 8.0+, and it installs from Google
Play with no sideloading.

Snapdragon phones also tend to be friendlier GCam targets than Exynos ones, so a
port is a real option here. This guide compares both routes honestly. Neither
adds a telephoto lens, and in good daylight the stock camera is often close. The
gains show up in backlight, dim rooms and high-contrast scenes.

## What the Galaxy A36 camera can and can't do

- **50MP main camera, f/1.8, with OIS.** The camera to build around. It bins to
12MP by default, and the stabilization gives a burst steadier frames to align.
- **8MP ultrawide and 5MP macro.** The ultrawide has a small sensor: fine in
daylight, noisy indoors. There's no telephoto, so past 1× you're cropping the
  main sensor.
- **12MP front camera** with 10-bit HDR video.
- **Snapdragon 6 Gen 3.** The A26 and A56 use Samsung's Exynos chips; the A36
runs Qualcomm's, which matters mainly for GCam.
- **One UI 7 on Android 15 at launch**, updated to Android 16 with One UI 8 from
September 2025, with six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security
  updates promised.

Samsung's "Awesome Intelligence" photo tools, such as Object Eraser and Filters,
edit or restyle a photo. None changes how the camera exposes the shot.

A better app **can** improve dynamic range, low-light noise, texture and exposure
control. It **can't** add a telephoto lens, enlarge the 8MP ultrawide, or invent
detail the optics never resolved.

## Why One UI isn't the best camera app for the Galaxy A36

The stock camera is a solid point-and-shoot that under-uses the main sensor in
the same ways on the A26, A36 and A56:

1. **Auto makes metering choices you can't see.** In backlight, even after its HDR
and Scene optimizer passes, it often protects the sky and buries your subject,
or lifts the subject and clips the sky, with no live readout of the trade-off.
2. **Pro mode is manual with no help.** Real sliders, but nothing reads the scene
and there's no RAW burst merge behind them.
3. **Noise reduction smooths texture away.** In dim light, foliage, hair and
fabric can look smeared at 100%.
4. **Expert RAW is left out.** Samsung keeps its multi-frame RAW app on
flagships: S-series phones from the S20 Ultra, the Note 20 Ultra and the Z
foldables. No Galaxy A phone is on the list, so the A36 has the sensor and OIS
for a RAW burst merge but no first-party app that runs one.

That gap is software, not hardware. Our
[Expert RAW alternative for Galaxy A](/blog/expert-raw-alternative-samsung-galaxy-a)
guide covers it across the range.

## Can you use GCam on the Galaxy A36?

Yes, with caveats. There's no official Google Camera build for Samsung, so every
"GCam for Galaxy A36" download is a community port. The A36 is likely a
friendlier target than its Exynos siblings, because ports have historically run
more reliably on Snapdragon phones. It still isn't a clean install:

- **Only the main camera is a safe bet.** GCam's HDR+ needs RAW frames from the
Camera2 API, and an A36 owner on Samsung's Members forum reports the
ultrawide, macro and front cameras locked to a limited Camera2 level. Expect
HDR+ on the main camera alone; our
  [Camera2 API hardware level guide](/blog/camera2-api-hardware-level-check)
shows how to check your unit.
- **Setup is per phone and per build.** Ports rely on XML configs matched to a
sensor and chipset, and Galaxy ports often ship as renamed APKs because
Samsung opens some camera features only to certain package names.
- **Updates can break it.** A One UI update can kill a working port overnight,
  and nobody owns the fix.

Even working, a port **locks you to auto exposure**: strong HDR+ processing, but
no live control over metering, and color tuning that often looks washed out on
non-Pixel sensors. To be fair, a well-matched port on the A36's main camera can
take genuinely good photos. If yours crashes, see
[why GCam ports fail and what to use instead](/blog/gcam-port-not-working-alternative).
The A36 has run Android 16 since One UI 8, so the
[GCam for Android 16 guide](/blog/gcam-for-android-16) applies too.

## How an on-device enhancer differs from a GCam port

GCam merges frames well but meters on auto; manual apps leave the reading to
you. SensePose takes a third route: it's point-and-shoot, with no sliders and
no RAW, and it enhances each photo on the phone as it's taken, in three ways:

1. **Color and tone enhancement.** Every shot gets an on-device color and tone
pass in a Natural or Punchy look you pick in settings, so a day's shots match
each other instead of drifting between stock color moods.
2. **A mild on-device denoise** for indoor and night shots. It works on a single
   frame, not a merged burst.
3. **AI face enhance** on arm64 phones with 3 GB of RAM or more (a one-time
download of about 60 MB). Press and hold a photo to see the original.

Enhancing runs on the phone and works offline, with no account, and your photos
never leave your phone. The first 5 enhanced
photos are free; after that, photos still save free at full resolution, and one
small payment unlocks enhanced photos forever, with no subscription.

One honesty note, since the name misleads people: SensePose is an AI camera, not
a pose-estimation or motion-capture tool, and it's unrelated to DensePose or
SenseTime's 2017 SensePose technology. The full category argument is in our
[best AI camera app for Android](/blog/best-ai-camera-app-android) guide.

## Galaxy A36: stock camera vs GCam port vs SensePose

| | A36 One UI camera | GCam port (unofficial) | **SensePose** |
|---|---|---|---|
| Live exposure control | Auto-first; manual Pro sliders | Locked to auto | **No (point-and-shoot)** |
| RAW HDR+ multi-frame merge | No (Expert RAW is flagship-only) | Yes on the main camera, once configured | **No (single frame, enhanced on-device)** |
| Color | Samsung tuning, can clip skies | Often washed out off-Pixel | **Natural or Punchy look, enhanced on-device** |
| Setup | Pre-installed | Sideloaded APK + a matching config | **One install from Google Play** |
| After a One UI update | Updated by Samsung | Can break; nobody owns the fix | **Updated through Google Play by maker Profazia** |

The honest read: the A36 is likely a better GCam candidate than the Exynos A26 or
A56, so a tuned port is reasonable if you enjoy tinkering. Otherwise, a supported
app gets you an on-device enhance pass on every shot with no sideloading. Either
way, keep the stock app for the ultrawide. Our
[GCam vs AI camera app](/blog/gcam-vs-ai-camera-app) breakdown has the long
version.

## Other camera apps worth knowing on the A36

- **Stock One UI camera.** Keep it for video, the ultrawide and quick snaps. It's
  stable and reaches every lens.
- **A GCam port.** For tinkerers: strong HDR+ on the main camera once a config is
dialed in, at the cost of the other lenses, auto-only exposure and upkeep.
- **Open Camera or ProShot.** Real manual control, and DNG saving where your phone
exposes RAW. Open Camera is free and open source, with its own optional HDR and
noise-reduction modes; ProShot is paid. Both give you sliders but no AI.
- **Snapseed.** A free editor, not a camera, that pairs well with any app above.
For a DNG workflow, see [how to shoot RAW on Android](/blog/how-to-shoot-raw-on-android).

## Best camera settings for the Galaxy A36

- **Stay at the 12MP default.** Full 50MP mode usually skips the multi-frame
path, trading dynamic range and noise handling for pixels you won't use.
- **Stay at 1× and walk closer.** With no telephoto, zoom is a crop.
- **Use the stock app for wide shots.** The ultrawide reportedly runs at a
limited Camera2 level for third-party apps, so RAW pipelines likely can't help
  there.
- **Turn off Scene optimizer if colors look unreal.** It's a common cause of
punchy skies and greens on One UI; see our
  [camera app without over-processing](/blog/camera-app-without-over-processing)
  guide.
- **Expose for the highlights.** A sensor this size pulls detail back from
shadows far more easily than from a blown sky, so watch the histogram's right
  edge.
- **Hold still for the burst.** A merge needs a beat after the shutter; in dim
  light, brace your elbows. The
[low-light and night camera guide](/blog/best-low-light-night-camera-app) has
  more dim-light technique.

## FAQ

### What is the best camera app for the Samsung Galaxy A36?

For most A36 owners it's SensePose. It enhances every photo on the phone as you
take it from the 50MP main camera: better color and tone in a Natural or Punchy
look, a mild low-light denoise, and AI face enhance on supported phones. It's a
Google Play install for Android 8.0+, and the first 5 enhanced photos are free.
Keep the stock app for video and the ultrawide.

### Can I install GCam on the Galaxy A36?

You can install a community port, and the A36's Snapdragon chip likely makes it a
friendlier target than most Galaxy A phones. There's no official Google Camera
build for Samsung, though: ports are sideloaded APKs that usually need a matching
config, and an A36 owner reports full Camera2 access on the main camera only, so
expect GCam's HDR+ there alone. Even a working port locks you to auto exposure
and can break after a One UI update.

### Does the Galaxy A36 have Expert RAW?

No. Samsung keeps Expert RAW on flagships: S-series phones from the S20 Ultra,
the Note 20 Ultra and the Z foldables, with no Galaxy A phone on the list. The
A36's 50MP OIS main camera can feed a multi-frame RAW pipeline, but Samsung
doesn't ship one for the A-series, so RAW burst merging on it comes from a
third-party app.

### Is the Galaxy A36 camera good?

The 50MP main camera with OIS is capable, especially in daylight. The weak spots
are the 8MP ultrawide, no telephoto, and a stock app without a multi-frame RAW
pipeline, so a better app helps most in backlit, high-contrast and low-light
scenes.

### Galaxy A36 vs A26 vs A56: which has the better camera?

On Samsung's spec sheets all three share a 50MP f/1.8 main camera with OIS, and
none gets Expert RAW. The A56 adds a 12MP ultrawide (the A26 and A36 have 8MP)
and an Exynos 1580. The A36 runs a Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 and has a 5MP macro to the
A26's 2MP. Matching spec lines don't guarantee identical sensors or tuning, but
the A36's practical edge over the A26 is likely GCam compatibility, and the A56's
edge over the A36 is the ultrawide.

### Is SensePose free on the Galaxy A36?

Partly. The first 5 enhanced photos are free. After that, photos still save free
as the original at full resolution, and one small payment unlocks enhanced
photos forever, with no subscription. Enhancing works offline, there's no
account or sign-in, and your photos never leave your phone. SensePose is on Google Play as
com.profazia.sensepose: Android 8.0+, from maker Profazia.
