If you built your own filters in Polarr, Adobe Lightroom Mobile is the closest
Android replacement: you can save any edit as a preset, import preset files and
dial a preset's strength up or down. Free with no subscription? Snapseed, whose
2026 updates added film simulations and smart masking. And if your filters were
mostly rescuing flat, dull phone shots, the better fix is often earlier, in the
camera: SensePose enhances every photo on the phone as you take it, so you
start from a better file. Before you switch, know that Polarr's
filter QR codes are Polarr's own format. Lightroom and Snapseed can't import
them, so plan to rebuild your favorite looks by hand.

SensePose is an AI camera app for Android. It enhances every photo on the
phone as you take it: better colour and tone, cleaner low light, and AI face
enhance on supported phones, with a Natural or Punchy look. It's free to
download on Google Play, Android 8.0+, made by Profazia. It isn't a filter
editor, though, so the editors come first below.

## Why people look for a Polarr alternative

Polarr is still live on Google Play, so this is rarely about the app
disappearing. The usual reasons:

- The subscription. Premium filters and tools need Polarr's paid plan,
which also unlocks Polarr 24FPS, its video app.
- It does a lot. A Polarr filter can bundle AI object edits, overlays, face
reshaping and a LUT on top of the usual sliders. That's more than you need
if you only ever used three looks.
- Filters can't fix the input. On a budget phone, the JPEG a filter starts
from is often the real problem (more on that below).

## Polarr alternatives compared: custom looks, LUTs and price

| App | Price model | Saved custom looks | Capture or edit | Android? |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| **Polarr** (baseline) | Free + subscription | Yes, shareable as QR codes; LUT tool built in | Edit | Yes |
| **Lightroom Mobile** | Free core app + Premium | Yes, presets (create, import, export) | Edit (camera included) | Yes |
| **Snapseed** | Free, no ads or subscription | Yes, saved looks; LUT import in beta | Edit (camera included) | Yes |
| **VSCO** | Free tier + membership | Yes, Recipes | Mainly edit | Yes |
| **Picsart** | Free + subscription | Filters, next to templates and stickers | Edit | Yes |
| **Dazz Cam** | Free + paid cameras | Preset camera styles | Capture | Yes |

Tiers and prices move around, so confirm them on each app's Play listing
before you subscribe.

## Lightroom Mobile: the closest match for custom filters

If your Polarr habit was building a look once and reusing it, Lightroom's
presets are the nearest thing. Save any edit as a preset, apply it to any
photo, and use the Amount slider to dial its strength. Preset files you buy
or download go in through the Presets panel's import option.

The editing tools behind those presets are strong: a full tone curve, a color
mixer for HSL, and color grading wheels for shadows, midtones and highlights,
which is how most cinematic looks get built. Masking is where the paywall
shows: AI subject, sky and background selection, plus brush, linear and radial
masks, sit in Lightroom Premium.

A note for LUT users: Lightroom Mobile doesn't load .cube files, so a LUT
has to be converted into a profile with Adobe's desktop tools first. RAW/DNG
files also give Lightroom far more to work with than a JPEG; see
[how to shoot RAW on Android](/blog/how-to-shoot-raw-on-android).

## Snapseed: the free one, and it's catching up fast

Snapseed's 4.0 update in May 2026 closed a lot of the gap with paid editors.
It's still free, with no subscription, ads or watermark, and now has film
simulations, halation, bloom and grain, one-tap smart masking for subjects
and backgrounds, curves, color HSL, saved looks and batch editing. Snapseed
Camera applies a film or custom look live, and it stays editable afterwards.

For Polarr users the interesting part is in beta. In September 2026, Google
began testing .cube LUT import and a Community Looks sharing feed in the
Android beta, as Android Authority reported. Until that ships widely, Polarr
keeps an edge for LUT users, and it still lists more overlay types (weather,
texture, duotone) and AI object selection beyond subject and background: sky,
vegetation, buildings, animals.

## VSCO, Picsart and Dazz Cam

- **VSCO** is the pick if you want curated film-style presets rather than
building your own. Recipes save a preset plus your adjustments as a
reusable look, though most of the preset library needs a membership. More
  in our [VSCO alternative guide](/blog/vsco-alternative-android).
- **Picsart** has filters alongside templates, stickers and collage tools.
Better for social posts than careful color work.
- **Dazz Cam** bakes a retro look in at capture, imitating disposables and
old point-and-shoots. Several of its cameras are paid.
- **Darkroom** shows up on a lot of Polarr lists, but it's Apple-only.

## Why the same filter looks different on every photo

This matters more than which app you pick. A LUT, and the color layer of most
filters, is fixed math: a given input color always becomes the same output
color, whatever the scene. (Polarr's AI masks can aim it at the sky or a
person, but the math inside each mask is still fixed.) So the result depends
on the input:

- Clipped highlights have nothing left to shape. Every blown-out sky pixel
holds the same value, so a LUT can tint that patch but can't restore detail.
- 8-bit JPEGs band. A JPEG holds 256 levels per channel, so a strong fade or
contrast push can step a smooth sky or wall into visible bands.
- Lifted shadows lift the noise too. On a noisy single frame, a matte look
drags up grain and smeared noise-reduction texture.
- Every camera app processes differently. Phone makers bake their own tone
curve, saturation and sharpening into the JPEG, so one filter rarely looks
  the same on two phones.

That's why a LUT pack that looked great in its samples can look harsh on your
photos: the file you fed it changed, not the pack.

## Fixing the input: where SensePose fits

SensePose doesn't replace a filter editor. It changes the file a grade starts
from:

1. Every shot is enhanced on the phone as you take it: better colour and tone,
and cleaner low light from a mild on-device denoise. It's point-and-shoot,
   with no manual exposure.
2. On arm64 phones with 3 GB RAM or more, faces get an AI enhance. Press and
hold a photo to see the original.
3. The look is chosen once: Natural or Punchy, in settings.

It takes a single frame, so it can't restore highlights that clipped, and it
doesn't merge a RAW burst (more on that method in
[what RAW HDR+ is](/blog/what-is-raw-hdr-plus)). It's a difference in the
starting file, not a promise that every shot looks like a film still. Our [cinematic color grading guide](/blog/cinematic-color-grading-camera-app-android)
has a three-point test you can run on any filter.

A naming note: SensePose is a camera app, not a pose-estimation or
motion-capture library, and it's unrelated to DensePose and to SenseTime's
2017 SensePose technology. The camera is the product.

### What SensePose won't do for a Polarr user

- Enhance old photos. It only enhances photos you take in it, and there's
no filter store or QR-code sharing; keep Snapseed or Lightroom for that.
- Let you change the look later. Snapseed Camera's live look stays
editable; SensePose's enhance is part of the finished photo (turn on "also
save the original" if you want the unenhanced file too).
- Enhance without limit for free. Shooting and full-resolution saving cost
nothing, and the first 5 enhanced photos are free; after that, one small
payment unlocks enhanced photos forever. There's no watermark.
- Add as much on a flagship. Phones with a mature multi-frame
pipeline already process heavily, so it earns its keep on budget and
  mid-range models.

## Which Polarr alternative should you pick?

- Rebuilding your saved custom filters: Lightroom Mobile presets.
- Free, no subscription, no ads: Snapseed.
- LUT files are your whole workflow: keep Polarr for now, or watch for
Snapseed's LUT import to leave beta.
- Curated film presets you don't have to build: VSCO.
- A retro camera look baked in as you shoot: Dazz Cam.
- Fixing flat phone shots before they need a filter: SensePose, which
enhances every photo on the phone as you take it.

## Is Polarr still free?

Polarr is free to download, and the free version covers basic edits. Premium
filters and tools need the subscription, which Google Play lists at $3.99 a
month or $19.99 a year in the US at the time of writing. Prices vary by
country.

## Is Polarr better than Lightroom?

They do different jobs. Polarr is filter-first: one tap applies a whole look,
overlays and AI object edits included, and looks are easy to share. Lightroom
is editor-first, with deeper RAW handling and finer color tools. Quick social
edits: Polarr. Control over the edit itself: Lightroom.

## FAQ

### What is the best alternative to Polarr on Android?

For custom filters, Adobe Lightroom Mobile is the closest replacement: you
can save and import presets, adjust a preset's strength and use advanced
color tools, though masking needs Premium. Snapseed is the best free option.
If you used filters mainly to fix dull phone photos, SensePose enhances each
shot on the phone at capture instead.

### Is there a free app like Polarr?

Snapseed is the closest free option. It has no subscription, ads or
watermark, and includes film simulations, one-tap smart masking, curves, HSL,
saved looks and batch editing. In September 2026, Google also began testing
.cube LUT import and a Community Looks sharing feed in the Snapseed beta.

### Can I import my Polarr filters into Lightroom or Snapseed?

Not directly. Polarr filter QR codes are a Polarr format, read by Polarr and
Polarr 24FPS; Lightroom and Snapseed can't import them. To move a look, note
the adjustments it makes (curve, HSL, toning, grain) and rebuild it as a
preset in the new app.

### Can I use LUTs in Lightroom Mobile?

Not as raw .cube files. Lightroom Mobile imports presets (.xmp, .dng or
.lrtemplate files), so a LUT has to be converted into a profile with Adobe's
desktop tools first. If you work only on your phone, Polarr lists a LUT tool
among its adjustments, and Snapseed began testing .cube import in beta in
September 2026, so check which version you have.

### Why does the same filter look different on my photos?

A filter or LUT applies fixed color math, so the result depends on the photo
it's applied to. Clipped highlights have no detail left to shape, 8-bit JPEGs
can band under strong curves, lifted shadows bring up noise, and each phone
processes its JPEGs differently. A better-exposed starting image changes the
result more than switching filters does.

### Is SensePose a filter app?

No. SensePose is an AI camera app for Android. It enhances every photo on the
phone as you take it, with better colour and tone, cleaner low light, AI face
enhance on supported phones, and a Natural or Punchy look. It can't enhance
photos already in your gallery. The first 5 enhanced photos are free; after
that, photos still save free at full resolution, and one small payment
unlocks enhanced photos forever. No watermark.
