> **Is NOMO CAM on Android?** Yes. NOMO CAM – Point and Shoot is on Google Play,
> so you don't need an APK. The catch is the pricing model: a few cameras are
> free, some can be bought one by one, and the full collection plus the pro
> tools (importing photos, turning off effects and so on) comes with a
> **NOMO PRO** yearly membership. If you'd rather not subscribe, you have two
> routes. Rebuild the retro look for free with an editor like **Snapseed**, or
> start from a cleaner capture. **SensePose** is one free option for the second:
> it enhances every photo on the phone as you take it, with better colour and
> tone and cleaner low light.

## What NOMO CAM actually is

NOMO CAM is a "camera collection" app. Instead of one camera with filters, it
gives you a shelf of virtual cameras, each modelled on a type of real one:
instant film, 35mm point-and-shoots, toy cameras, early-2000s digicams. Each
camera has its own frame, grain, color response, light leaks and, on some, a
date stamp. You pick a camera, shoot, and the look is baked into the photo.

That design is the appeal. You don't make editing decisions, you choose a
"camera" and accept what it gives you, the way you would with a disposable.

It's also where the cost comes in. On its store listings, NOMO offers some
cameras free, sells some individually for a few dollars, and unlocks the whole
collection with NOMO PRO, a yearly membership with a free trial. The exact
price varies by country and changes over time, so check the price shown in
your Play Store before the trial ends. If you only ever use one or two
cameras, a yearly plan for the whole shelf may not be worth it to you.

## What makes the "NOMO look"

Every retro camera in apps like NOMO is a stack of a few effects. Once you can
name them, you can rebuild any of them in a free editor:

- **Color shift.** Film and old sensors don't render color neutrally. Instant
film runs warm and slightly faded, cheap 35mm often goes green or magenta in
the shadows, and old digicams push saturation.
- **Lifted blacks and soft contrast.** The darkest tones are grey, not black.
This is most of what reads as "vintage."
- **Grain.** Film grain or small-sensor noise, usually stronger in the shadows.
- **Vignette.** Corners darker than the center, from cheap lenses.
- **Light leaks and halation.** Orange or red glows at the edges, and soft glow
  around bright highlights.
- **Frame and stamp.** A white instant-film border, or an orange date in the
  corner.
- **Direct flash.** Hard light, bright faces, dark background. This one has to
happen at capture. No filter adds it later.

The first five are edits. The last two are a frame overlay and a shooting
habit.

## The alternatives, by what you actually want

### 1. Free, no subscription, full control: Snapseed

Snapseed is Google's free photo editor for Android. It has no subscription
and no watermark, and it has every tool you need to rebuild a retro look:

- **Vintage** and **Retrolux** filters give you faded color, scratches and
light leaks in one step, with sliders for strength.
- **Grainy Film** adds grain with a style selector.
- **Curves** lets you lift the blacks precisely.
- **Vignette** darkens the corners.
- **Looks** (saved edit stacks) let you save your recipe once and apply it to
  any photo in one tap.

**Honest strength:** it's free and deep, and once you save a Look, you
have your own "camera" that you never pay for again. **Honest weakness:**
it's an editor, not a camera. You shoot first, edit after, and there's no
one-tap "pick a camera" moment like NOMO's.

### 2. A camera with real manual control: Open Camera

Open Camera is free and open source, with no ads. It gives you manual ISO,
shutter, focus and white balance, plus grid and level guides. It has no retro
looks built in.

**Honest strength:** if you want to shoot direct-flash snapshots or deliberately
warm white balance (two of the most convincing retro cues), it gives you the
controls to do it at capture. **Honest weakness:** sliders and no AI. You set
every value yourself, and the look still comes from an editor afterwards.

### 3. Film presets with a free tier: VSCO

VSCO has a built-in camera and an editor with film-style presets. A free
selection of presets is included, and the larger preset library and
advanced tools are in a paid membership.

**Honest strength:** its presets are some of the most refined film emulations
on Android, and it's the closest match to NOMO's "look first" feel.
**Honest weakness:** the deepest film library is behind a subscription, so if
avoiding subscriptions is the point, stick to the free presets. See our
[VSCO alternatives](/blog/vsco-alternative-android) guide for more.

### 4. A better capture under any look: SensePose

Every retro effect sits on top of the original photo. On a lot of budget and
mid-range Android phones, that original is the weak link: the stock camera
takes a single processed JPEG, smears texture with heavy noise reduction, and
clips bright skies in backlit scenes. Grain over a smeared photo looks like
noise, not film.

SensePose is an AI camera app for Android built around that base layer:

1. **On-device enhance on every shot.** Each photo is enhanced on the phone as
you take it: better colour and tone, and cleaner low light from a mild
on-device denoise. It's point-and-shoot and works on a single frame.
2. **AI face enhance** on arm64 phones with 3 GB RAM or more (a one-time
download of about 60 MB). Press and hold a photo to see the original.
3. **A Natural or Punchy look**, for a consistent finish across an album.

**What it won't do.** SensePose is not a retro camera collection. It has no
virtual instant-film cameras, no light-leak overlays, no instant-film frames
and no date stamp. If you want those, pair it with Snapseed: shoot in
SensePose, then apply your saved retro Look. It takes a single frame, so it
can't hold a sky a single exposure clips. It helps most on budget and mid-range phones that
shipped without a strong multi-frame pipeline; recent flagships such as the
Galaxy S-series or Pixel already merge bursts, so the gain is
smaller there.

**Pricing.** It's free to download, and the first 5 enhanced photos are free.
After that, photos still save free at full resolution, and one small payment
unlocks enhanced photos forever. No watermark. For how that compares, see
[camera apps with no watermark](/blog/best-camera-app-no-ads-no-watermark).

SensePose is a camera app. It isn't a pose-estimation, skeleton-tracking or
motion-capture library, and it has nothing to do with DensePose or SenseTime's
2017 SensePose technology.

## How to make a NOMO-style "camera" for free

This recipe rebuilds a warm instant-film look in Snapseed. Do it once, save it,
and reuse it on every photo.

1. **Shoot for the look.** For the snapshot feel, turn the flash on and shoot
people up close, indoors or at dusk. Keep the composition casual and
   centered.
2. **Open the photo in Snapseed → Tools → White Balance.** Push Temperature
warm (around +15 to +25) and Tint slightly toward magenta.
3. **Tools → Curves.** Drag the bottom-left point straight up a little so the
blacks turn soft grey. Pull the top-right point down slightly to tame
   highlights.
4. **Tools → Tune Image.** Lower Saturation by about 10 and Contrast by about
   10 for the faded feel.
5. **Tools → Grainy Film.** Pick a subtle style and keep grain low. Too much
   reads as a cheap filter.
6. **Tools → Vignette.** Darken the outer brightness gently.
7. **Optional: Tools → Retrolux** at low strength for a light leak.
8. **Save the stack as a Look.** In the Looks tab, tap the plus to save it
as "Instant". Next time it's one tap.

For an early-2000s digicam variant, skip the warmth, push Saturation *up*,
add sharpening with Details, and use direct flash. Our guide to
[the digicam look on your phone](/blog/how-to-get-digicam-look-on-phone)
goes further, and the [best digicam filter apps](/blog/best-digicam-filter-apps)
roundup compares the dedicated apps.

**Why the capture still matters.** The edit amplifies what's in the file.
Lifting blacks on a photo with crushed, noisy shadows lifts the noise too.
A merged RAW burst holds more real detail in the shadows and highlights, so
the faded look stays clean instead of muddy. That's the reason to shoot in a
stronger camera and grade afterwards. (SensePose doesn't merge a burst; its
on-device denoise is milder.) For the mechanics, see
[what RAW HDR+ is](/blog/what-is-raw-hdr-plus).

## Which should you install?

- **You love NOMO and use many of its cameras?** Keep it. The membership is
fair value if you use the collection.
- **You use one or two NOMO cameras?** Check whether those are sold
individually in the app, rather than paying for the whole year.
- **You want the look with no subscription at all?** Snapseed with a saved
  Look, as above.
- **You want manual control at capture?** Open Camera.
- **You want refined film presets and don't mind a free tier's limits?** VSCO.
- **Your phone's photos look smeared or blown out before any filter?** Try
SensePose from Google Play, then apply your retro edit on top. For the
wider field, see our [best AI camera app for Android](/blog/best-ai-camera-app-android)
  guide.

## FAQ

### Is NOMO CAM available on Android?

Yes. NOMO CAM – Point and Shoot is published on Google Play, so install it
from there. There's no reason to download a NOMO CAM APK from a third-party
site, and "PRO unlocked" mod APKs have had their code changed, so they can't
be trusted with camera and storage access.

### Is NOMO CAM free?

Partly. The app is free to download, a few cameras are free, some can be
bought individually, and the full collection with pro tools is in the NOMO PRO
yearly membership, which offers a free trial. Prices vary by country, so
check the amount shown in your Play Store before the trial renews.

### How do I cancel NOMO PRO on Android?

Open the Play Store, tap your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions →
Subscriptions, select NOMO CAM and tap Cancel subscription. Cancel at least a
day before the trial ends to avoid the yearly charge.

### What is the best free NOMO CAM alternative for Android?

For the retro look itself, Snapseed: it's free with no subscription, and its
Vintage, Retrolux, Grainy Film, Curves and Vignette tools rebuild NOMO-style
looks you can save and reuse. For a better photo underneath the look,
SensePose is a free AI camera that enhances every photo on the phone as you
take it, with better colour and tone and cleaner low light.

### Does SensePose have retro filters like NOMO CAM?

No. SensePose has no virtual retro cameras, light leaks, instant-film frames
or date stamps. It enhances every photo on the phone, with a Natural or Punchy
look and AI face enhance on supported phones. Shoot in SensePose and add a retro look in an editor
like Snapseed.

### Is SensePose free?

It's free to download, and the first 5 enhanced photos are free. After that,
photos still save free as the original at full resolution, and one small
payment unlocks enhanced photos forever, with no subscription and no
watermark. It's on Google Play as `com.profazia.sensepose` and needs Android
8.0 or later.
